Depending on a person’s activities and skin type, the tan lasts approximately 5-7 days (up to 10 for some people). With follow up applications, a person can maintain the tan indefinitely. Using a moisturizer daily will help extend tanning results while keeping the tan looking healthy and glowing. A sunless tan is not a long term commitment, so it is great to try for the first time!
Imagine the difference between finger painting your car and using an airbrush to paint it. Even with the greatest of care, and help from a friend to get all the places you cannot reach, you can’t duplicate the even consistency and natural look of an airbrushed tan.
Airbrush tanning is an alternative form of tanning. People with sensitive skin or people who have a hard time tanning, be it natural or in tanning beds will find this form of tanning very comforting. One application with airbrush tanning will be equivalent to approximately 6 tanning bed sessions, therefore, making it cost effective. Airbrush tanning also spares the skin of excessive skin damage and free from potential burns caused by the sun or tanning beds.
For the maximum result, before your session, shower and exfoliate the skin. Make sure your skin is free of perfumes, lotions, oils, deodorants, gels or any product on the skin that would create a barrier. Also, remove all jewelry (and don’t put it back on until a few hours after your tan)!
Attire for women is whatever you are comfortable with. Many things can be done to minimize tan lines. The key is your comfort level. Attire for men is boxers, swim trunks or shorts. Your tanning specialist will use the utmost discretion. Loose fitting clothing should be worn for leaving the facility. We have found that DHA reacts with wool, nylon, and silk. These fabrics should not be worn during or immediately following your tanning session.
The color produced by a sunless tanning product like airbrush tanning does not wash off; it simply fades as the upper layers of the epidermis wear away. You can try to speed the exfoliation process by gently scrubbing the skin with a washcloth or loofah sponge. DO NOT OVER SCRUB! It may take a week or more for the “tanned” skin to disappear.
YES! According to the American Academy of Dermatology, the most effective products available are sunless or self-tanning products that contain dihydroxyacetone (DHA) as the active ingredient. DHA has been used in cosmetic preparations for almost 30 years and was listed with the FDA in 1973. It is declared safe and suitable for use in cosmetics and drugs used to color the skin. DHA is derived from glycerin (vegetable origin), which is a commonly used cosmetic and food ingredient. DHA is not absorbed into the body and poses no possibility of toxicity.
A person CAN get a sunless tan even if they can’t get a real tan. Airbrush tanning does not need a person’s melanocytes to be in working order. Dihydroxyacetone (DHA), the active ingredient in airbrush tanning, saturates the dead skin cells in the outermost layer of skin, where it turns the protein in the dead cells golden tan.
Fast, convenient, safe and effective. Have a date, a party or just want to go sleeveless? Airbrush tan today, look great tonight. Did you know that a tan physique gives you a slimmer appearance? That’s right, not to mention a very healthy glow. Get the bronzed, sexy look all of Hollywood is sporting without the harmful, aging effects of the sun.
Of course! But just remember that the airbrush tan does not provide any sunscreen protection, so you should apply sunscreen accordingly. With an airbrush tan, your skin will appear tan, even though it’s not. This is an artificial tan. There is no Sun Protection Factor (SPF) in the airbrush tan, so your skin is still exposed and vulnerable to the sun. If you choose to expose your skin to UV rays either from the sun or a tanning bed, it is important to use a lotion with SPF to protect you from the sun’s harmful rays.
No. Airbrush tanning solutions will not cause more freckles. In fact, in most cases, freckles and blemishes will become LESS obvious because the lighter skin areas will darken and reduce the color differential between these areas and the rest of the skin.
No fear, your airbrush tan technician can give a light spray to your bald spot too!
Applied correctly, the protection in any sun block will at most last 4-8 hours. Since an airbrush tan lasts for 5-7 days (up to 10 for some people), adding SPF would not provide protection for the life of your tan and could be misleading. Airbrush tanning solutions and body care products do not contain a sunscreen and do not protect against sunburn. Repeated exposure of unprotected skin while UV tanning may increase the risk of skin aging, skin cancer and other harmful effects to the skin even if you do not burn.
No. Airbrush tanning solutions will not harm tattoos, but if you have yellow or light tones, it can temporarily darken the color a bit, until your airbrush tan fades.
If you don’t want that to happen, just cover the tattoo lightly with moisturizer lotion BEFORE your airbrush tan.
We recommend about 8 hours. Sunless tan longevity varies from person to person and according to your lifestyle. Long exposure to water will fade your airbrush tan. Your outer cells will start to soak up water, which dilutes the effect of the tan. The longer you are in the water, the lighter your tan will get. Having an airbrush weekly maintenance tan allows the tan to saturate the skin better. The tan will then hold up longer in water. Be sure to moisturize every day, this helps maintain the tan.
How can I minimize exfoliation from hot tubs, swimming pools and the ocean after I get an airbrush tan?
After your tan has developed and after your first post-tan shower, you can minimize water activity exfoliation by liberally and frequently applying a good, strong waterproof sunscreen (such as Bullfrog, Iguana, Blue Lizard or others) before submersing yourself. These are very durable brands and can help protect your tan from fading.
The concern some doctors have is over whether or not the active ingredient (DHA) is able to enter the blood stream; the indications are that it cannot. DHA only penetrates the outermost of the skin. However, if the client is still concerned they should consult their physician first. FYI: DHA has been used as a cosmetic ingredient in the United States since 1960 and no problems have ever been reported concerning DHA penetrating the skin, or causing problems during pregnancy.
The bronzer will wash off your skin after your first post-tan shower. But until then, the color application could stain some fabrics (For example: nylon, silk, wool and polyester). However, a good soaking in water will usually lift the stain from the fabric. Most fabrics and materials are completely safe — if the Airbrush Tan color rubs off on any other fabric it will simply wash out. Many have reported that the Oxy cleaning products, like Clorox’s non-bleach Oxygen Action, do a great job. FYI: two commonly reported causes of the color application coming off are both on bed sheets — excess sweat from menopausal hot flashes and those who drool on their own face while they sleep.
Using an exfoliator insures smoother softer skin for the airbrush tan application, resulting in an even and longer lasting tan. If you do not use an exfoliator, you will be tanning skin that is about to fall off and your tan will disappear more quickly. Loofahs and puffs do not conform to the body and will result in an uneven exfoliation and can create a “zebra” look to your airbrush tan.
Shaving is a form of exfoliation so you should shave about 8 hours before the application. Shaving after will take off some of your tan, so shave before. After your application, be sure to use a new razor as old dull blades can mar your results.
Yes. For the best result remove deodorant and moisturize under arm. Wait 3 hours to reapply deodorant. It may turn green when deodorant is reapplied. If so, the green will rinse off in the shower.
Please be sure to schedule your manicure/pedicure before your airbrush tanning session. The solution will not ruin nails as a barrier cream will be applied.
Any type of waxing will remove your airbrushed tan. You need to have any waxing appointments done at least 24 hours before your airbrush tanning session.
